The rain fall so heavily outside. Huh, look like I won't be able to go to the sea to catch fish today.. Well, it's a common sense for a fisherman like me. Work with the weather. I decided to switch on the Tv. Nowadays, it's very easy to search for entertainment. Not like the old days. All we have was just a radio. As I turn on the Astro decoder, that beauty nigger woman shaking her *** as she sing her english song and sing.."To the left, to the left" . Hmmm..... I try so hard to understand any word from her song but I find it so difficult. So easy for kids today to see those bad stuffs. I change channel to TV1. My favorite channel. I see there are advertisement about the Independence Day which is just around the corner and the whole country will celebrate their 50th Years anniversary this year. There will be so much firework I guess. I saw it in television last year. So happening.
Well, I still remember the day when Malaysia known as Malaya that time celebrate it's Independence Day in 1957 and I was 10. Everywhere I heard people talk about it. I went to school, my teacher, Miss Halimah told that Malaya will free from any colonist. I asked her what is colonist. She said colonist is the people who come to our country and make this country as their own country. She also told us that Malaya had been colonized by many big power since 1511 when Malacca was attacked by Portuguese. Then came Netherlands men and take over Malaya from them. Next British came with Francis Light as the first English man who conqueredMalaya in Pulau Pinang until Japanese attacked Malaya from Kota Bharu where they took over Malaya in just one month. Wow, for just one second I was impressed to hear that an Asian country succeed to do it so easily and won over a powerful country like Britain. But when Miss Halimah told us that there were a lot of suffer they brought to Malayan and I once heard it from my father and mother. They said they only can ate tapioca. Japanese soldier was so mean. Miss Halimah then said after almost three years eight months Japanese conquered us, something happened to their big cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki and they had to raised white flag three years before I was born in 1947.
After all the classes finished I walked back home and I saw posters was pasted everywhere and invited everyone to go to Merdeka Field at Kuala Lumpur for a big celebration. I was so excited to hear it. So as I entered my home I ask my father what will happen to our country after today. He said that we will rule our country by ourselves without any help from British. I was so happy to hear about it. I ran to the kitchen and asked my mother where all the colonist will go after that day. She told me "Don't worry my son. No more British or Japanese. From now on, they will go back home and we are free". I became so excited to hear it. I went to the paddy field next to our house and searched for my grandmother. I asked her, do we have to eat tapioca again. With smile, she replied, "Not anymore my dear. Our country is free now. You can eat rice and delicious food everyday." I laughed and ask grandfather who sit next to her about Independence Day. He said " Our flag will raise to replace Union Jack and will be raised all over the country. Malay, Chinese and Indian will live as one. No more fight, no more apart". I nodded and smile again. I was so happy to hear so much change after today, started 12 at the midnight. I asked them would they came to Merdeka Field that night. They said the whole family will come and shouted "Merdeka' together with Tunku Abdul Rahman. I was so excited to hear about it and ran to my mother and asked her to get my new cloth. She told me that she already bought it at the town previous day.
